Public Services and Procurement Canada, in partnership with Innovate Energy, successfully obtained ISO 50001 certification for their Energy Services Acquisition Program (ESAP) on August 13, 2020. As the first North American public sector organization to receive this certification, and the first to undergo a remote audit due to the COVID-19 pandemic, PSPC sets a new standard for energy efficiency management.
The ISO 50001 standard helps organizations integrate energy efficiency into their management practices, allowing them to continuously improve their energy performance, promote a culture of energy efficiency improvement, and better utilize existing energy-consuming assets and processes.
For the ESAP, this standard is an invaluable tool for continuously improving energy performance and reducing greenhouse gas emissions for 35 years, helping the government of Canada achieve its environmental commitments and departmental objectives.
ESAP is committed to meeting the long-term heating and cooling needs of all PSPC buildings connected to district energy systems in the National Capital Region.
This program also aligns with the Canadian government's ecological shift and aims to reduce GHG emissions by 40% by 2030, while continuously improving energy efficiency through an ISO 50001-compliant energy management system.
